After breaking out into the open with his last year’s LP Built on Glass, Australian electro-crooner Chet Faker has kept a relatively low profile throughout 2015. Faker did team up with producer Marcus Marr to share Work, an EP replete with dancefloor tempos and an extra-synthetic veneer of sensuality, but fans of his solo work have received only a few remixes and a funky one-off single, “Bend,” to tide them over.
Friday, Chet Faker delivered at least a little more for his parched listening base in the form of “Underground,” a spacey instrumental track uploaded to SoundCloud with nothing but a single #archive tag serving as description. Consisting of percolating drum patches and some extremely sparse instrumentation, it’s more than likely just a demo that never quite grew into fruition. Even so, it’s a perfectly lovely listen, full of the nocturnal sense of longing that Chet Faker imbues into much of his music. Listen to “Underground” below and check out the singer’s West Coast year-end tour dates after the jump.
