Four Tet Celebrates 1-Mil Milestone w/ New Music

Four Tet Celebrates One Million Follower SoundCloud Milestone With New Music.

Four Tet aka Kieran Hebdan celebrates one million followers on SoundCloud with the release of a techno house track with an impossibly long name:

“TrackI’veBeenPlayingOnRadio+StuffSeemsNiceThing2DropBecauseSmashingItOnInternetShouts2B.UFO+A.Naples”

“TIBPOR+SSNT2DBSIOIS2BUFO+AN” comes packaged with whimsical, emoji-heavy cover art created by Hebdan in Snapchat. A small coup for the UK producer, the song was reportedly allowed its massive title after initial reservations from SoundCloud regarding the length. Robert Glasper Pays Tribute To Prince With Unreleased ‘Sign O’ The Times’

The Okayplayer Interview: Robert Glasper On Miles Davis, Everything's Beautiful + Radical Jazz

Robert Glasper is currently flying high from producing the soundtrack to Don Cheadle‘s feature film directorial debut, Miles Ahead, yet that isn’t all that the Houston, Texas pianist is up to.

With the film a proven hit at the box office and garnering rave reviews, Glasper has shifted focus to creating another memory for music fans using the late, great Prince Rogers Nelson as a muse.

Fueled by the prolific + soulful spirit of The Kid, Glasper has made his own arrangement pegged to “Sign O’ The Times,” which you can read his thoughts below:

“This is a arrangement I recorded in 2015 as part of my “Covered” album. Unfortunately we were not allowed to put in on the album. Prince didn’t really like people recording his music lol..But I feel now is a good time to let everyone hear it! This is my favorite prince joint “Sign O The Times”..the message is still relevant..Prince you are missed..Thank you for unapologetically being you.”

You can listen to the track underneath and share the thoughts in the comments section:

Joey Bada$$ Flips His Style Up On The New Single “Devastated”

Joey Bada$$ Flips His Style Up On The New Single "Devastated"

Joey Bada$$ appears to be on the verge of a new chapter in an already impressive career. The 21-year-old Brooklyn native has been lacing the web with new joints for months now, and late last night, he tossed up yet another heater in the build-up to what could be a new album by year’s end.

“Devastated” is certainly a departure from the throwback stylings of his debut album B4.DA.$$, incorporating some more contemporary sonic textures (808s and a half-sung hook) ripe for your Memorial Day weekend cookout. The track arrives mere hours after the arrest of his arch rap nemesis Troy Ave’s for a shooting that took place at NYC’s Irving Plaza, leaving 3 injured and one man dead. Whether his devastation is tied to this has yet to be determined, but the track’s got legs nonetheless. Hear the latest from Joey Bada$$ down below and hold tight for his next transmission. You can also catch him on the road in the weeks ahead, the dates for which are listed under the player. Pick up a copy of his debut album on iTunes today.

Tour Dates:
May 28 @ Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica – Cleveland, OH
Jun 02 @ Irving Plaza – New York, NY
Jun 05 @ Governors Ball Music Festival – New York, NY
Jul 07 @ STEEZ Day Festival – Los Angeles, CA
Jul 14 @ Pemberton Music Festival – Pemberton, BC
Sep 16 @ Douglas Park – Chicago, IL

Are You Excited For The Return Of Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle Records?!

Lisa Leone Snoop Dogg

November 23, 1993 was such an infamous day in music, hell, hip-hop as a whole was raucous when Snoop Dogg debuted Doggystyle to the world. It will be another mega-event now that the Doggfather has announced the release of a sequel of sorts to his popular debut, which is due for release July 1. Titled The Return of Doggystyle, Snoop revealed the news in a live video upload to Facebook on Monday (May 23).

The man who has had more transformations than Madonna is itching to go back to where it all began. With no word yet on guest features and producers, there is serious hype for this project. Snoop, who has evolved from Snoop Doggy Dogg to Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion, was the product of proper consultation and guidance from Dr. Dre. So, it is no surprise that he is wanting to pay it forward in a sense and help other rising artists to get their voices out.

Snoop and his team will select tracks via music submissions for placement on The Return of Doggystyle. If they raise his ire, they will have their tracks posted on his SoundCloud page for the public’s approval. If the tracks are received well, the team will put it on iTunes for sale via Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle Records. The goal from the Long Beach general is to release 100 singles from new-and-unsigned artists before August.

Just Blaze, who participated in an interview with XXL Magazine, said that Snoop’s new record sounded like “updated G-Funk” and that he was “excited to find out that that’s the direction he’s taking with this album.” There’s a bit of dopeness in Snoop Dogg’s SoundCloud page, as 30 songs have already been uploaded to the site. With no official single release from The Return of Doggystyle, we have been blessed with two new tracks that serve as a possible preview of what’s to come.

Listen to “Love Around The World” + “Top Down” for yourself and share thoughts about the track below!

DRAMA (Via Rosa x Na’el Shehade) Make Their Return w/ new Single “Forever’s Gone”

DRAMA

I really could just listen to Via Rosa sing all day and night, and with as many gems as she has on her Soundcloud page, that’s pretty much what I do. Today, Via Rosa gets back to her duo with producer Na’el Shehade, DRAMA. It’s been quite awhile since their last single, but the two Chicagoans make up for their absence with this beautiful new track, “Forever’s Gone.” The Via Rosa x Na’el Shehade chemistry is undeniable – we need more. Listen to “Forever’s Gone” below, and look for DRAMA’s debut album coming soon.

Black Transgender Women: Intersectionality of Violence, Race, and Gender Identity

Transgender Woman Brutally Beaten In Brooklyn By Five Men (VIDEO)
@FreakoutNation
It has already begun. It’s just escalating now. NBC New York reported a 32-year old transgender woman was attacked by five men in Brooklyn last Friday.

While walking from a subway, she was abruptly surrounded by the five men who proceeded to yell derogatory remarks. The victim tried to get away, however, the group of men continued with their harassment which ultimately led to the beating.

Conservatives
Black Pastors Have Brutal Response to Obama’s Trans Bathroom Directive
@TopRightNews

To many Black Americans, it was upsetting to hear Attorney General Loretta Lynch compare the Trans bathroom issue to Jim Crow laws — drawing a comparison between the “struggles” of “Transgender individuals” and the violent civil rights battles of Blacks in the 1960s.

And now a group of furious Black pastors is denouncing this comparison, and slamming Obama for betraying MLK’s legacy:

“It’s a gross insult to all of those who marched with Dr. King and faced fire hoses and hatred in the name of equality.”

The group is calling on “all Black Americans to stand up and fight for the sanctity of Martin Luther King’s accomplishments.”

With one poll showing Obama’s trans bathroom edict is opposed by a stunning 73% of Black voters, this divisive position could set the stage for a huge battle that could influence the results of the 2016 election…and hurt Hillary badly.

Midnight Rockers Express Take Us To A Different Kind Of Church On This New Mixtape

Midnight Rockers Express MRE32

Mixtape mainstays Midnight Rockers Express – the duo of Lee Harrison and DJ GETLIVE – are back with their first new MRE tape of the year.

MRE32 starts off with Pastor T.L. Barrett’s “Father Stretch My Hands” (the sampled for Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo highlight of the same name), and launches into a mix that includes Madlib, Skepta, Beyoncé and James Blake, Nina Simone, and others.

Midnight Rockers Express live up to their name – clocking in at an hour and eight minutes, the tape is a chill, relaxing mix that should be perfect for late-night commutes or wind-down sessions. Lee and GETLIVE flesh out a cohesive combo of new music (James Blake and Bon Iver‘s “I Need A Forest Fire”;  Alicia Keys’ “In Common”; Drake’s “With You”) and older gems (Madlib’s “Come Here My Dear”) alike. By the time Simone’s “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues” closes out the tape, you’re likely to either run it back for a repeat listen or binge on MRE’s Mixcloud for hours on end.

Aside from a live session at Kinfolk 90 in March, this is the first installment in the Midnight Rockers Express series since MRE31, which was uploaded four months ago and originally broadcast in December 2015.

See the tracklist below, click play to listen, and follow MRE on Mixcloud.

Jay Z Joins Fat Joe & Remy Ma On The Official “All The Way Up (Remix)”

Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Jay Z

Fat Joe forever has a hit single in his back pocket. He’ll disappear for a few years then come back with a smash that rocks from NY to Cali. Joe and Remy Ma without question brought that feeling back with their French Montana, and Infared assisted single “All The Way Up,” and now they take it to new levels getting a verse from Jay Z on the remix. The Hov verses are few and far between these days and to see NY legends like Joe and Jay (with their very well documented history) collaborate on this one is a beautiful thing. It’s a TIDAL exclusive for now (I’ll reserve comment on that), so stream it through them, below.

Stream The New EP From Joyce Wrice, ‘Stay Around’

Joyce Wrice

After dropping her lead single last week, LA songstress Joyce Wrice wastes no time in coming through with her new EP. Earlier today, Joyce dropped her latest project, Stay Around. The six track EP has production from Mndsgn, Jlbs, Chuk Le Garcon, DJ Harrison, and SiR (who also co-wrote and executive produced the project). No filler tracks on this one, it’s a smooth ride from start to finish. “Ain’t No Need” is the song that first put me onto Joyce, and “You Used To Love Me” would probably be the other standout track on here for me, but go ahead and press play and decide for yourself. Stay Around is available for purchase via iTunes.

Starchild Charts The Minneapolis Sound w/ A Potent Mix Live Prince Rarities + Other Purple Gems

In the month since Prince‘s untimely death, we’ve seen salutes arrive in every shape and form. Stream The Latest Project From L.A. Artist def sound, ‘TIMEⓁⒺⓈⓈ.’

def sound

A few months after releasing his last project, ∆∆∆’s • OF • NEON, L.A. artist def sound returns today with a new project for us. Def continues to push the boundaries with his latest surprise release, TIMEⓁⒺⓈⓈ., a 4 movement project with vocal contributions from Kadhja Bonet and Def rocking over the production of Lykta, James Blake, A. Chal, and Def himself. The L.A. lyricist gives a pretty thorough break down of each movement, get that and the music, below.

1. Movement 1 feat. Kadhja Bonet ☾Prod. by . Lykta ☽ I won’t over explain it but originally called “UN.forget.” this movement is about thee longing for a love that you haven’t met yet (keyword yet). It’s like sending a friend request to thee girl of your dreams hoping she becomes the woman of your reality. Our idea of what we believe we want is just composites or collages of our favorite ppl. IDK Most of my love songs are written from a legit lonely place. I’m like Drake but I don’t blame thee woman in thee situation. Some things are nobodies fault.
2. Mvmnt 2 (I thought it would be funny to not use vowels, because that’s cool) ☾Original Prod. by . James Blake ☽ This James Blake opened me to a new level. I’m still recovering. I used this inspiration to actually dive deeper into myself. I’ve kinda been feeling like if I don’t tell my OWN personal story, who will ? So I wrote an AutobioActual account of my first memory as a child.
I hope you enjoy it.
3. Movementation tr3s ☾Prod. by . A. CHAL ☽ This song is a bit of a trip in a Tardis for me sooo I don’t really wanna talk about this song, but I love it though and I don’t want to give any of it away. Low key though Thee vocal samples in thee beat are from thee film Buffalo 66.
4. Finale Movement 4 ☾Prod. by . Def Sound feat. Live Bass by Alex Szotak ☽ I’ve been making beats lately so I thought I would share one for once. I’m still growing into my own possibilities. Special thankfulness to Alex for adding layers of flavors and blessing on thee bass chords.

Hear A Freshly-Surfaced Kanye West Beat Tape From 1997

Hear A Freshly-Surfaced Kanye West Beat Tape From 1997

As the world continues to debate whether they prefer the old or new Kanye West, a freshly dug-up beat tape may just stack the odds in favor of the former. This morning, what is claimed to be a tape from well-before Ye’s College Dropout run surfaced, featuring eight clean instrumentals, though they generally stray from the old-soul chipmunk chops we’ve come to love of young Kanye, with the exception of track 5 and a very simple, non-high-pitch flip of Minnie Riperton‘s “Lazy Afternoon” on track 7.

It’s hard to say just how long the tape will remain on these here internets, as they may have aged right out of relevance for the copyright hawks of his team. Nonetheless, Ye’s squad tends to act fairly swiftly with these sorts of matters, and with that in mind, we suggest you put your ears to this thing while you can. Having a tough time washing away the memories of post-Kardashian Kanye? Here’s the remedy you may be seeking. Though, personally, I’d still take just about anything on The Life Of Pablo, finished or not. Stream the new(ish) arrival from Kanye West down below and revisit his scattered, yet poignant Ellen interview today for all of Kanye-isms you can bear.

Premiere: Cosmic Jazz Giants Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids Return w/ First Album In Nearly 40 Years [Stream]

Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids Debut 'We Be All Africans' LP

“‘We Be All Africans’ is a message of survival. A message of renewal. A message that we are all brothers and sisters. We are all one family, the human family and we need one another in order to survive on this planet that we all share.” – Idris Ackamoor

Back with their first album in nearly 40 years, west coast jazz cosmonauts, Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramidsare strapped with a whole new brand of funk and fusion this time around. In their formative years, Ackamoor’s outfit was revered for its magnetic live shows and dizzying displays of musicianship, fueling a cult-like following and driving up the demand for new, or at least reissued, material since disbanding in 1977. Since then, Ackamoor has released a grip of solo albums and eventually got the band back together in 2007, only amplifying the anticipation for new material.

Now, in 2016, nine years after their reformation, Idris & The Pyramids are potent as ever, readying the release of their fourth studio album, We Be All Africans, which is as much of an ode to a bygone era in jazz as a proclamation of its safety in the hands of seasoned veterans and stunningly talented young guns alike. For those hip to The Pyramids’ angle, We Be All Africans should provide you with the heady blend of afro-beat bounce and funk frolic you’ve been yearning for, especially for those that took heed to BRAINFEEDER’s 2015 call.

Get swept up in the cosmic glow of Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramid’s We Be All Africans below ahead of its official release this Friday, May 27th, via Strut Records. Pre-order your copy today. You can also scroll down to see a rare clip of the original line-up, circa 1975, performing a set live on a KQED TV special.

Dec. 99th aka Yasiin Bey & Ferrari Sheppard – “Tall Sleeves”

Yasiin Bey & Ferrari Sheppard aka Dec. 99th Chant Down Babylon With The New Single "Tall Sleeves."

Broadcasting live from Cape Town under the Dec. 99th moniker, Yasiin Bey and producer Ferrari Sheppard chant down Babylon with the new single “Tall Sleeves.” Hearkening back to Bey’s work on his 2004 The New Danger LP, the left-of-center rap track recorded at Planet D studios finds Dec. 99th keeping the chopper close with a healthy dose of future shock that suggests the pair could truly be in constant contact with the cosmic. Their electro-charged revolution rap is definitely a jam primed to move the people dem. Fans can only hope that there is more where this joint came from. Check the track below to listen to “Tall Sleeves.” Get more via acountrycalledearth.com.
