Talib Kweli Shares A Documentary Video For New Indie 500 Cut “Which Side Are You On” ft. Tef Poe & Kendra Ross

As the release date of Talib Kweli and 9th Wonder‘s sprawling Indie 500 album draws-ever closer, a trail of gems is being laid–and we, the lucky listeners, are reeling in riches. Now, the LP’s opener “Which Side Are You On” has dropped, appearing on Kweli’s personal SoundCloud account Thursday evening.

“Which Side Are You On” follows “Every Ghetto” and “Pay Ya Dues” as the third single to be released off of Talib Kweli’s new compilation disc, and it positively goes, thanks in large part to the stuttering, left-field production tactics of Nottz, who we just heard collaborating alongside Rapper Big Pooh earlier this week. Lyrically, both Tef Poe dishes out relentless bars decrying the mistreatment of black Americans, while Kendra Ross coasts back and forth atop each chorus, crooning out a borderline gospel chant. The names of Tamir Rice, John Crawford, Eric Garner are deliberately brought up; Indie 500 is nothing if not a polyglot pushback against the racist violence at work on every level of the system.
