Over the years, Cuban vocalist, Daymé Arocena, has proven to be as versatile as she is powerful in her craft, soaring over scores that range from Afro-Cuban balladry to dizzying, jazz-leaning romps. With her forthcoming One Takes EP, the Brownswood signee is poised to stretch those musical boundaries even further apart, reworking afro-funk and house rarities with an airtight ensemble in tow. Today, she’s graced us with the premiere of the album’s dizzying lead-off, “Stuck,” which borrows its bones from a slinky and relentless dance floor heater by modern-day house specialist, Peven Everett.
Over five-and-a-half minutes of bubbling percussion and bustling bass lines, Arocena proves her lilt is not solely reserved for traditional scores. With “Stuck,” a whole new world of side-splitting grooves reveals itself and you just might wanna stick around for the party. Hear Daymé Arocena’s cover of “Stuck” down below and if it’s good to your earhole, pre-order your copy of the One Takes EP on iTunes today ahead of its May 6th release.
