November 23, 1993 was such an infamous day in music, hell, hip-hop as a whole was raucous when Snoop Dogg debuted Doggystyle to the world. It will be another mega-event now that the Doggfather has announced the release of a sequel of sorts to his popular debut, which is due for release July 1. Titled The Return of Doggystyle, Snoop revealed the news in a live video upload to Facebook on Monday (May 23).
The man who has had more transformations than Madonna is itching to go back to where it all began. With no word yet on guest features and producers, there is serious hype for this project. Snoop, who has evolved from Snoop Doggy Dogg to Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion, was the product of proper consultation and guidance from Dr. Dre. So, it is no surprise that he is wanting to pay it forward in a sense and help other rising artists to get their voices out.
Snoop and his team will select tracks via music submissions for placement on The Return of Doggystyle. If they raise his ire, they will have their tracks posted on his SoundCloud page for the public’s approval. If the tracks are received well, the team will put it on iTunes for sale via Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle Records. The goal from the Long Beach general is to release 100 singles from new-and-unsigned artists before August.
Just Blaze, who participated in an interview with XXL Magazine, said that Snoop’s new record sounded like “updated G-Funk” and that he was “excited to find out that that’s the direction he’s taking with this album.” There’s a bit of dopeness in Snoop Dogg’s SoundCloud page, as 30 songs have already been uploaded to the site. With no official single release from The Return of Doggystyle, we have been blessed with two new tracks that serve as a possible preview of what’s to come.
Listen to “Love Around The World” + “Top Down” for yourself and share thoughts about the track below!
