Hear J Dilla Rhyme Like Never Before On Freshly-Surfaced ‘The Diary’ Cut “The Introduction”

Hear J Dilla Rhyme Like Never Before On Freshly-Surfaced 'The Diary' Cut "The Introduction"

Over the past few weeks, the J Dilla memorials and musings have been copious. And rightfully so, as this February marks 10-years since the late legend passed and 10-years since his masterpiece, Donuts, landed and changed the game forevermore. Today, we have the pleasure of bringing you yet another fine token of his prolificacy, not as an innovative and inventive producer, but as an emcee.

Just moments ago, Zane Lowe invited NaS to his Beats 1 program to help pull the veil off “The Introduction,” which apparently comes from the long-lost, much-delayed The Diary LP; one that was worked on tirelessly and originally slated to be released back in 2013, showcasing Jay Dee’s often slept-on mic-slaying skills. Three years down the line and we’ve yet to hear anything, but “Anthem” and “Trucks,” both produced by Dilla and found on 2-inch tapes just after his death. With “The Introduction,” we hear Dilla rhyme like never before over a production that could very well be his own, but has yet to receive a precise credit. Stream it below and cross your fingers with us that The Diary actually sees the light of day in 2016. Nas seems to be fairly confident.

Hear A Dope New Cut Off Bastard Jazz's New POMO-Helmed Compilation

North-of-the-border producer, POMO, has been making a name for himself in a hurry over the last year. His keen ear for funky frequencies was on full-display for Anderson .Paak‘s breakout album, Malibu, sculpting the breezy boogie romp, “Am I Wrong” as well as some choice remixes of Sade, Tinashe, AlunaGeorge and most recently, Mark Ronson‘s “I Can’t Lose” (all available for your listening pleasure via his immutably-dope Soundcloud page.)

Today, however, we focus in on POMO’s curatorial abilities, as Bastard Jazz readies the fourth installment of their Tempo Dreams compilation series, presented by the blooming beatsman himself. Thelonious Martin

I suppose this project is somewhat Valentine’s Day themed, but it doesn’t have to be the 14th to enjoy some chopped up 90s r&b samples. Chicago producer Thelonious Martin partners with menswear brand Botanica NY for this 5-track EP, U4ME.

Only 5 tracks long, the project is filled with skits that not only give it a theme relatable to the passing hallmark holiday, this project speaks more about about the lasting concept of the most beautiful thing in the world, love.

Coming in just under 16 minutes, it’s a quick listen, but Thelonious provides you with 0 throwaway tracks as you’ll find yourself leaving U4ME on continuous loop. Listen to the latest from Thelonious Martin, below.
