Eternally Trill: A New Drake Leak Surfaces Featuring The Late Pimp C

No matter what how you view the meteoric ascent of Drake, you’ve gotta hand it to the kid for consistently waving his flag for the OGs. Particularly, the late Pimp C and his surviving UGK bredren, Bun B. From the get, the north-of-the-border rap sensation has displayed the utmost reverence for these giants of hip-hop, developing an uncanny bond well beyond the passing of Pimp C that carries on to this day, appearing on several posthumous Pimp C releases, perhaps most notably, “What Up” (which trill aficionado, Sama’an Ashrawi, champions as one of Drizzy’s most memorable career moments.)

And so, when a new leak surfaces, easily assumed to be a selection from his soon-to-arrive Views From The 6 LP, it shouldn’t jar you so much as re-instill some of your faith in this current generation of MCs, who so quickly catch the full force of “heads” shouting “blaspheme!”. Today, precisely that has transpired with the arrival of “Faithful”; a waves-for-days track (bearing all the marks of 40 on production) that opens with a mic-check from the one and only, Pimp C, and though it may not seem like much more than a subtle tip of the hat, we feel confidant that both the new and old school will approve. Repping Detroit and Philly, respectively, each have staked their claim to the crown with decades-plus of material, but that’s never stopped them from crossing the streams. We’ve heard them blaze tracks as a terrific twosome over productions from Statik Selektah (“The Imperial”) and DJ Premier (PRhyme‘s “Wishin’ II”,) but today they muscle up in tandem on the new track “Rap On Steroids.”

No it’s not an April Fools tug, Thought & Royce deliver in spades over a trap-tastic suite, booming and bustling with energy, teasing the notion of a full project. And while we can’t say if such a collaborative effort is actually in the works, this should hold you over until something along those lines does, in fact, surface, sending the whole rap game into a frenzy.
